In the list of animated pictures released this June, ‘Cars 2’ is back with the racecar ‘Lightning McQueen’ in action. ‘Cars 2’ is slated as the Disney’s biggest film of the year 2011. ‘Turtle: The incredible Journey’ is a documentary by National Geographic explorer Nick Stringer. The documentary is distributed by SeaWorld Pictures. The adventure takes us to turtle world, especially the loggerhead turtle which is a threatened species. We are given in detail of its migratory patterns that are distinct and the most difficult among any marine animal. The opening of the turtles is at the beach of Florida where the turtles hatch. The journey with them continues as they move into the sea struggling themselves past their predators and breaking waves out to the calm water. The camera moves along the creatures 50 miles non stop when they finally get hooked up on patches of seaweeds which will finally afford them their first living sleep. The film is narrated by Academy Award nominee Miranda Richardson. Nick Stringer and his camera crew have spent two years following loggerhead turtles on their trips across the ocean. ‘Leap Year’ directed by Michael Rowe is his debut shot in a minimalist set. Set in one room the movie brings to light the loneliness of the main character Laura Lopez (played by Mónica Del Carmen) and her desperation as a woman. The film chronicles 29 days in the life of a young, dispirited Mexican woman who waits in her apartment while a string of male visitors come and go. The movie got the Camera d’Or award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. It is from the telephone call that we are revealed of all the details of the protagonist. We discover that she is a business journalist who moved to Mexico City from rural Oaxaca. The 29^th day in the calendar is circled red and the film becomes a countdown to this mysterious date. She lies to her mother about the beautiful things she is enjoying which actually isn’t so. Though ‘Leap Year’ has lot of sex, the eroticism shown ensures that it is not about the joy of sex but about a desperate lonely woman with deep dark secrets of her own. It is in fact the story of survival. The film also stars Arturo as a sadist (played by Gustavo Sanchez parra) who returns to her again and again.

‘Better Life’ is a series of struggle of a 40 year old landscaper Carlos (played by Demian Bichir) in Los Angeles trying to protect her teen aged son (played by Jose Julian) from gangs, immigration agents and poverty. The director of the movie Chris Weitz employs the same strategy as in the film ‘Bicycle Thief’ directed by Vittorio De Sica in the year 1948. The story has tried to open up the simple and decent life of the Mexican gardener and his Americanized son. Trying to give the son the opportunities he never had, he finds his truck stolen under his nose. This creates a lot of chaos which in turn creates greater understanding between the father and the son. The movie has been successful in showing the hard reality of what it means to be without documents in American society. The screen play of the movie by Eric Eason has kept it simple. The story of the film is by Roger L. Simon.

Bad Teacher is a comedy movie where the protagonist Elizabeth Halsey is a Chicago teacher who is ill-suited for both her profession and children in general. Dumped by her rich fiancé; she advances towards another man Scott Delacorte (Justin Timberlake) to replace her money bag. She has her own rules, does not care about her job and feels that a boob job is necessary to keep all in place. The film is directed by Jake Kasdan and screen play is by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky. The movie is released by Columbia Pictures. Like the teacher who does not given an F to the students, the movie does not quite make good grades in the box office. Though the trailer shows it as a picture that will make you laugh aloud, it could have been made much better.
